Fulham FC Match Odds

Fulham F.C. is the oldest professional football league team to be based in London. Founded in 1879 and nicknamed ‘The Whites’ but more often ‘The Cottagers’ after the Craven Cottage ground where they have played since 1896. Admitted to the national Football League in 1907/8 season they spent their early years playing in the Second and Third divisions.

In 1949 they were promoted to the First Division and in 1950 they signed Johnny Haynes, A schoolboy at the time, he would spend 20 years at Fulham becoming their greatest ever goalscorer and earning the nickname Mr Fulham. Haynes would go on to be an England Captain earning 52 caps and was the first football player ever to earn £100 per week.

The 1960s saw Fulham struggle to stay in the First Division and by the mid 70s they began to make a series of high profile signings in an effort to revitalise the team. Bobby Moore, George Best and Rodney Marsh were all signed but despite their famous players by 1980 the club sank to the Third Division. Mounting financial problems meant many of their best players had to be sold and Fulham narrowly avoided going in to receivership.

By the early 90s the club had reached it’s lowest ebb and it was at this point bought by Mohammad Al Fayed who announced that he expected them to be in the Premiership within 5 years. Kevin Keegan was appointed as manager and under him the team rose to the Second div. In 2001/2 Fulham finally secured a place in England’s top league for the first time since the 1960s and one year sooner than Al Fayed had predicted.

Since returning to the top flight Fulham have avoided relegation a number of times and often hover around the middle of the league table. Their Craven Cottage ground was re developed on their return to the Premiership with areas demolished and replaced with a new expanded stadium. In 2009/10 they had one of their finest seasons in recent years, knocking out some of the best teams in Europe to reach the Europa League Final but losing out to Atletico Madrid in extra time.
