The European Tour moves on this week to the Portugal Masters tournament which is hosted at the Oceanico Victoria Golf course, Vilamoura.

The event was first staged in 2007 when it was won by Englishman Steve Webster, it is now an established and popular stop on the European Tour.

Portugal, and the Algarve particularly, are regarded as one of the finest golfing regions in the world and the Arnold Palmer designed course expects crowds of around 40,000. The 2014 event will run between 9-12 October, when no less than 73 winners of European Tour events will compete.

England’s David Lynn, will teeing off to defend the title he won so convincingly last year but he is far from favourite this year with Paddy Power Bookmakers offering odds of 50/1 on him retaining the title.

This remarkable showcase of golfing’s elite includes Four Major Champions, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabel and two former Open Champions, Paul Lawrie and Darren Clarke.

Europe’s successful Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley will be competing on an individual basis alongside his European Vice Captains, Olazabel and Harrington.

Also appearing are Nicolas Colsaerts and Francesco Molinari, the Italian has been runner up in the event on two occasions.

Molinari will be joined by fellow countryman, Matteo Manassero, who has odds with Paddy Power Bookmakers of 66/1, and he will be hoping to become the first Italian winner of the competition.

The record breaking 21 year old took last years BMW PGA Championship and is now hungry for a fifth European title to add to his tally.

Englishman Tommy Fleetwood, 16/1 at Paddy Power Bookmakers, plus Scotland’s Richie Ramsay, 28/1, will be hoping for great things in Vilamoura as they were both in top form at the Alfred Dunhill Championship last week at St Andrews.
