I was quite surprised on Sunday when MK1 got the boot from X Factor. I actually thought they were quite good and no, I'm not some angst teen trying to connect to my urban roots – more like nearing middle age which, upon reflection, is probably why they're gone – if I like them it goes without saying that their demographic probably doesn't!

Anyhoo, another one bit the dust leaving only ten acts to battle it out for the ultimate prize – a Christmas number one followed by a life of obscurity (Leona Lewis and JLS the exceptions). Ella Henderson, favourite from the get-go has now moved into odds on position at can be had at 8/11 if you think that she's an absolute sure thing.

Me, I'm not convinced – a lovely girl with lungs to give Mariah a run for her money but she's not the most exciting or original in the world is she??

I think James Arthur – who has swiftly overtaken Jahmene Douglas for 2nd favourite with Paddy Power Bookmakers at 11/2, could be the one crowned in glory in December and I also wouldn't discount the two boy bands who appear to have conjured up thousands of screaming teeny bopper fans the length and breadth of the country.

Union J are 8/1 with the marginally less appealing District 3 at 33/1.

Big shock in the odds is that Lucy Spraggan is way out there at 40/1 and given her uniqueness she may just appeal to those of us who actually pay the phone bill and surprise everybody by winning it!
