Blackjack Rules

Not everybody is familiar with the rules of Blackjack or indeed, how the game should be played, so here at the Gamehunter I've added some helpful and handy pages which will help you make your fortune at the table.

The first thing you need to know about is the table which is generally set up with seven betting spots, although some games have as few as five. The House is represented by the dealer who stands behind the table to distribute the cards.

Blackjack can be played with as little as one player or to the maximum that the table can hold. You can also play more than one spot if you so wish but remember that if you play two spots you'll be playing twice the cash so make sure you have enough funds before choosing.

Always remember that you are playing the HOUSE/CASINO not the other players. This is very important. The only person you need to be concerned about is the dealer. If you card count you will need to be looking at the other player's cards but other than that you won't really have any interaction with them.

Your goal is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over, all in a bid to get a higher total than the dealer. Make no mistake about it, you only need to beat the dealer - if you can do this with a total of 14 then good for you, the return is just the same as if you beat him with a total of 21!

You place your bets at the table using the box marked out on the table in front of you. At this point, the dealer places two cards face-up for each player who has made a wager and one for the bank.

You now have two choices, if you're happy with the total on your two dealt cards you can 'Stick'. If you believe that you can obtain a higher total without going over 21 then you 'Hit'. The dealer will then deal you a third card. And, once again you will have the same two choices - stick or hit.

Once you decide to stick the dealer must turn over his second card. If his two card total is 16 or under, he must draw again. The dealer can only stick at 17 or more.

Now you know the basic rules of the game and a little more about how it is played, you can move on to the Blackjack tips we have! Or, if you think you know enough, why not go and play a couple of hands - click here for our free blackjack game.
