Hit & Stand Tips For Blackjack

At every hand in Blackjack you will be given a number of choices – Hit, Stand, Double and Split. The most important of these is when to 'Hit' 'Stand' or 'Double Down'. If you’re not sure when the best time to stand is, use the chart below to work out the best course of action in any particular hand.

The Hit/Stand Chart is very easy to work out, first you look at the cards you have been dealt in a Blackjack game and match them to the same value cards on the left hand side of the chart under the 'Your Cards' text and arrow. Let say you get dealt a 'King' and '6 of Spades' in Blackjack that makes a total of 16 - So look down the 'Your Cards' column and find the card values that add up to 16, in the example below it's a 10 of Clubs and 6 of Clubs. Remember in Blackjack any suited Ten, Kings Queen and Jack all equal a value of 10. You don't have to match the exact cards, just make sure your hand adds up to the same value on the chart.

To work out if you should 'Hit' or 'Stand' you need to look across the row of small cards to the right of 'your hand' under each of the dealers card is a coloured bar. Depending on the colour under the dealers hand you should either 'Stand' 'Hit' or 'Double'.

Pretty easy really? I hope so, normally Blackjack charts can be very confusing. I have spent some time developing this user friendly version. This chart is only for Hard Totals and not for players hands which contain an Ace, for that you need a 'Soft Total' chart which you can find by clicking here. That is the basic strategy guide to hitting and standing in blackjack, you should always hit on all totals below 8 and always stand on totals above 17 regardless of the dealers cards. You can also split pairs in blackjack, if you get dealt 8, 8, you should split them. Splitting is an option open to a player dealt pairs. If you match your original bet the dealer will break your cards into two hands, you can play out both hands separately. Lets have a look at cards you should split.

Split The Following

AA, 88, split 99 against the almost all dealers cards except 7, 10, A. Split 77, 33, 22 against a dealer showing 7 or less. NEVER split 10s or face cards, 20 is a great total and you don't want to weaken it. Only split 66 if the dealer is showing a 6 or lower and only split 44 if the dealer 5 or 6.
