These are good tips that should help you develop faster as a player and even if you are a good online player you may find that one or two of these can be added to your repertoire of skills the next time you hit the table.

Avoid Alcohol

Try to avoid alcohol when you're playing poker online. The more you drink, the duller your senses become and the more you make mistakes and lose.

Minimise Distractions

Keep the outside distractions to a minimum - it's harder to concentrate on the game when there's a lot of noise going on around you. You need to have a clear mind when you sit down at the table.

Tiredness

Avoid playing when you're tired - you can't concentrate as well, you get bored faster if the game is lengthy and you miss out on the signals that your opponents are giving you that could win you hands and ultimately the game.

Multi- table playing

Unless you're a great player don't try to play more than one table at a time. It's hard enough to win at one, playing two simultaneously will only reduce your chances of winning at either.

Table Limits

Stick to the limit tables that your bank roll can sustain. Don't go jumping up the tables if you can't afford it. The players at high limit tables are generally better so winning on a $2 table does not necessarily mean you can keep up with the big guns at the $50 table and you could lose quite a bit of money doing it.

Bad Beats

View bad beats as a learning tool - look back at what happened and decide if you could have played the hand differently. Use this the next time you find yourself in a similar position.

Gut Instinct

Listen to your gut - without the advantage of tells from other opponents it can be difficult to get a good feel for them so listen to your own instincts. If you feel that you're in for a bad beat than cut your losses and fold.

Be Strong

Don't succumb to peer pressure - many players will go the distance on a hand they can't win simply to avoid looking weak or give their opponent the satisfaction of winning - don't be stupid, fold and keep your chips - you may not win that battle but you could win the war!
