When picking a runner to back in the Grand National remember a few simple facts that will help you narrow your selections down; the age of the horse is vital for success in this race, you should be looking for a runner aged between 9 - 11 years old. Weight is also important, horses carrying more than 11st should be discounted. Look for runners that do well in the races proceeding the Grand National - The Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup has provided seven of the last 18 National winners - Coral Welsh National with six winners in the last 21 years - Topham Trophy, a race in which two recent placed horses went on to win the Grand National within 12 months.
