World Cup Legends

Football is arguably the biggest and most popular sport in the world and with that come footballing legends who have spent their lives setting the world alight both on and off the pitch. So what makes a football legend and how does a footballer join this elite club?

Every team has its stars, those that have us cheering from the stands and shaking our head in amazement and disbelief as we find ourselves bearing witness to some of the most incredible footballing skills around. But legends take these moments to another level, creating draw-dropping magic that will literally go down in history.

Legends have always been ahead of their time and, to some extent, ahead of the footballing world. These players were a cut above everybody else around them, leading their clubs and countries to fame and glory with exceptional and outstanding levels of skill and determination.

Every single conversation ever had, by anyone in the world, regarding the greatest footballers of all time has thrown up the famous name ‘Pele’. And while this may be very true, Pele being the all time best footballer in the world, we mustn’t forget that there have been an incredible amount of genius players that have graced our screens and pitches over the years.

Consider, if you will, Franz Beckenbauer. The only man in the world to have ever lifted the World Cup as both a player and a manager! Or how about Eusebio who scored 317 times in 301 Portuguese league games? Did you know it was Johan Cruyff who took football as we know it to a whole knew level by being the first to play what we now know as ‘Total Football’?

The world has produced some incredibly talented players and we just hope that it continues to do so and if England can take victory at the 2006 World Cup maybe in a few years we can look back at the players that turned into legends before our very eyes.
