Newcastle United Take Over Specials – Odds On NUFC Signing Mbappe

After a 14-year wait, Newcastle United supporters may now look forward to life under new owners with Mike Ashley selling the club last Friday!

Newcastle United fans may be about to get a lot better off. For the past 14 years, they have had Mike Ashley in charge, who has been extremely disliked by supporters. Whilst being the owner of the club, he has seen them relegated twice and made several poor managerial changes, among other things. He even changed the stadium’s name from St James Park to the Sports Direct Arena, the name of one of his many companies.

On Thursday, Ashley and the new owners reached an agreement for a £305 million payment! The new group is made up of numerous shareholders, one of whom is Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. He is believed to be worth approximately £320 billion. In comparison, Man City’s owners are worth ten times less than this!

Newcastle fans are extremely delighted with the new ownership, and there is a good reason for that. They haven’t won a major trophy since the FA Cup in 1955. They are one of the most popular clubs in the country, with a strong fan base and one that should be performing significantly better.

Newcastle United Take Over Specials

With Newcastle having new owners, comes a lot of expectations and with that comes some interesting betting markets. One of them gaining some attention currently is for Newcastle to sign none other than Kylian Mbappe by February 3rd 2022.

Currently, this is priced at 25/1, so it’s not looking likely however, don’t rule it out. As it stands, Mbappe is out of contract next summer with PSG and under the Bosman ruling, he could sign for one in January, to then go at the end of the season. Many think that Mbappe’s future is going to be at Real Madrid. He was a fan as a child and has always said it’s his dream to play there. However, if Newcastle offers him the money he can’t really refuse, could we see one of the best players in the world moving to the North East? One thing is for sure, if he did it would certainly be the best way to please your new fans!

We think this is a very interesting price. Currently, Newcastle are 19th, but only seven points off of the top half. Steve Bruce is set to leave the club soon and this usually gives players a bit of a boost when someone new takes over. Couple this with the fact a transfer window is still to come before the end of the season then who knows.

Newcastle has a good squad now, one that is capable of mounting a top half challenge. If they brought in two or three good players in January then a top-half finish could be a real possibility!

Given it has cost them £305 million so far and a lot more to come, the owners will want some return on their investment in the form of trophies. The EFL Cup could be the perfect opportunity for them to end the wait for a trophy.

Now a lot of the big clubs, eg Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man United, will focus on winning the Champions League and the Premier League. This is probably a stretch too far for Newcastle next season, but with two/three transfer windows under their belts, they could have a good enough squad for the EFL Cup. Newcastle should look to prioritise going as far as possible in this, as it could also attract more players!
