Golf fans on both sides of the Atlantic will be looking forward to the 2014 Ryder Cup which takes place this week on Scotland’s, Gleneagles golf course. The biennial contest between Europe and the USA features the elite of the golfing world and can be relied on to produce thrills, spills and occasional controversy, all wrapped up in the sort of tension you would expect when top class players compete.

The European team includes the hottest player on the planet at the moment, Irishman Rory McLlroy. Ranked World No 1, after an amazing summer of golf in which he claimed two Majors bringing his tally to four, he will be taking part in his third Ryder Cup.
The star studded Europeans are favourites to win the competition at 8/15 and Paddy Power bookmakers have Rory as favourite European player at 4/1, to take the most points.
Team USA captain, Tom Watson, was in charge the last time they won the competition in 2008 at Valhalla and this has to be a boost to the underdogs confidence. They will surely be seeking revenge for the crushing defeat they suffered two years ago in the ‘meltdown’ at Medinah.
Phil Mickelson is their most seasoned player, playing in his 10th competition he is 6/1 to take most points for the USA. He has made the Ryder Cup his priority and after withdrawing from the BMW Championship said, “My primary goal is to rest and prepare for the Ryder Cup, without a chance to contend at the Tour Championship, the most important thing for me now is to prepare for the Ryder Cup”.
Well, that sets the scene for a competition that is never short on passion and amazing golf, let battle commence at Gleneagles!
