One glimpse of the view from Goodwood’s main grandstand and you realise just why it’s called Glorious in mid-summer. The sight of Frankel careering to a 12th victory on this Sussex Downs course last year was one that will stay in the memory forever, and this July, there are certain to be more great moments.
Ireland is set to dominate the Artemis Goodwood Cup on Day 3 after Irish horses won the last three of seven meetings, while the battle of the jockeys takes place in the Day 1 Lennox Stakes. Both Tom Queally and Richard Hughes have twice won this race, and the seven-furlong encounter could go down to a photo finish this year.
Punters are likely to back an older, more experienced horse for Day 4 King George Stakes – seven of the last 10 victors have been five years or older – while Ryan Moore will look to forget his 2011 broken shoulder and thumb when he once again takes to the saddle in the Sussex Stakes.
