Craps is a game that a lot of gamblers tend to overlook. It is a simple game and the online version offers both experienced and novice players advantages over the traditional game.

Craps is one of the most intimidating games in a casino as there is a lot of unusual terms, a large number of betting options, and a lot of action. In a real-world casino, Craps is the game that has a lot of noise at the table. We’ve all seen it in the movies – usually, there’s a guy rolling the dice down the table with crowds of people cheering as the dice lands on a winning combo.

The online version is a lot quieter but this has its advantages. You can play at your own pace without getting too confused by other players’ and their strategies.

Once you know the rules of the game, playing it becomes a lot easier.

Craps is played with a set of two identically balanced dice. Like every die, they should have six sides each with each side having one to six white dots.

To play craps you toss to dice from one end of the table to the other, ensuring that both dice have hit the opposite wall of the table.

Payouts are made based on the number combination that is displayed once the dice have come to rest, with players using chips to bet on whether the dice thrown will result in a win or a loss. All sounds pretty simple so far?

Craps can be broken down into two stages:

Stage 1

The person rolling the dice is called the Shooter. They must place a ‘line’ bet (‘pass’ or ‘don’t pass’) in order to be eligible to roll the dice.

The first roll the shooter takes is called the ‘Come-out‘ roll. Players then place bets on the result of the come-out roll. There is either a Pass bet (betting with the shooter) or a Don’t Pass bet (against the shooter). The shooter then throws the dice to the table wall opposite his position.

If you as the player placed a Pass bet and the roll lands a 7 or 11 (‘Natural’) then you would win. But if it lands on a 2, 3 or 12 (‘Craps’), you would lose. If any of these numbers are achieved then the round ends there.

However, if the roll out totals 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, that number becomes what is termed the ‘Point’. The dealer will place a puck on the location of that number on the table, which has no significance other than to announce to the table what the point number is for the current round.

Stage 2

From here the game continues onto the second stage and with the same shooter throwing the dice over and over until either the point number has been rolled again or a 7 is rolled. Once either of those happens, that round is over, and the game starts all over again.

Now prior to starting Stage 1 again players can make a variety of different wagers, which is where the game of Craps starts to look difficult!

Examples of some of the bets are:

Different Types Of Craps Bets

Odds are made in multiples of the pass bet. If the Pass bet wins, it will be paid at 1 to 1, while the supplemental wager will be paid at odds of 2 to 1 if the point was 4 or 10.

Proposition bet: these are one-roll bets decided on the first throw of the dice, which include all of the following:
Any craps: A bet that 2, 3 or 12 will show on the next roll

Any 7: Betting that a 7 will be thrown on the next roll

2: Betting that a value of 2 will be thrown on the next roll

3: Betting that a value of 3 will be thrown on the next roll

12: A one-roll bet that a 12 will be thrown next

11: Betting that an 11 will be thrown on the next roll

Field bet: A one-roll bet on the 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12

Considering that is just one of many other types of bets, you can see why craps seems a tough game. But it really is worth it, and very exciting!
